I'm finishing in my current job in 7 weeks, i'm being made redundant.
I sent my cv to an agency yesterday thinking it would take a while to get a job and now I have an interview tomorrow. I really didn't expect this to happen so quickly but don't know what to say when they ask when can I start? Would a company wait 7 weeks. I am the Finance Manager in my current job and as I am closing down things for the company, I cannot leave any earlier.
I know the norm is 4 weeks but has anyone ever given longer?

    Advice apprecaited.

Two months notice is quite normal for a senior position.

If the new company really wants you, they will wait. Simple as.

I had to give 4 weeks notice to my employer last week & I have a holiday booked for 10 days straight after - so thats almost 6 weeks in total. The new company were fine with it - they probably would have preferred if I started earlier, but it wasn't a deal breaker thank God :)

The recruitment agent should give the company these details (notice period, salary expectations etc).

It should be fine. I'm sure one of the questions the interviewer will ask is what is your notice period. I hire a lot of people with 3 month notice periods and some candidates need green cards that take 4 months to come through. As long as the company are aware that you're notice period is 7 weeks it should be fine, they'll take it in to account.

If they are professional at all, they will understand that you have prior commitments. Seven weeks is not that long at all.

Dependent on the individual jobs I would suggest that a company might have to wait up to three months notice for someone in the position of 'finance manager'. By the time you make a final decision and sign a contract the wait will probably only be six weeks. That sounds relatively reasonable.

Most people I know in junior non-critical positions would still have to work out four weeks before moving job.
