    Hi,

Im wondering if any of you have come across any good (and cheap) guitar stores in new york? Im there for 6 nights from tomorrow and ive to go looking for a US telecaster for a friend and possibly some form of les paul or even an SG for myself.

If anybody could help out with suggestions about where to start looking it would be greatly appreciated!

go to 33rd street guitars on (suprise) 33rd street between 7th and 8th avenue and drool at all the beautiful vintage gutairs and pedals and amps that are insanely expensive...then go to Guitar Centre or Sam Ash's which are like big department stores for music gear (i can't remember their addresses but you'll find them on google maps, theres a couple of sam ash's as far as I know). pawn shops are good but random, you can't really expect them to have what your looking for.

    -Highly recommended

-Didn't get a chance to see but it's meant to be great. It's on staten island, though.

-SMALL shop but the guys in there are great. Only does 'copies' though. You won't see Fender's or Gibsons but they do have a nice range of G&L

-Didn't have time to get to this place either

    :(

You can get directions on the websites. I've forgotton the rest of them but those listed are probably enough to keep you going! Really great stuff, great prices, friendly people. At least you have time - I only had 2 days!

Have fun, New York is amazing!

Try West 48th Street. It's got Sam Ash, Manny's Music and Rudy's, all within 10 metres of one another.

I'd second this recommendation & I'm in no way professional :)

They don't have low-end guitars but if you're looking for a US telecaster I'm assuming that doesn't bother you too much. The staff are really friendly and the guitars are kept in good condition, neither of which I could say for Sam Ash....

I recently got a Martin d16GT in Guitar Center for $1000 - worked out €600 cheaper than the exact same guitar in Perfect pitch.
I got it in Guitarcenter. I found this very handy because I was able to browse thier website and price the guitars I wanted - I also phoned in advance and made sure they had it in stock.
I seen the same gguitar in a store in Grenwich Village for the same pprice but I suspect I could have haggled on this one.
It was a chance I took going to guitar center but the people there were very helpful and I had the benefit of browsing in advance!
