Driving in UK

I am getting the rosslare to Fishguard Ferry soon and was wondering:
What do you need for driving in the UK? Is it mandatory to use one of IRL signs on the back of your car? This is my first time...

I think that was all done away with because there is a little blue Eur / Ire logo on your number plate. I drive in the UK regularly and I have never been stopped (cops have more to worry about).

If you do feel the need to get one to be on the safe side, I would suggest one for the back window rather than a full on sticker job for the bumper - they can be a pain to take off sometimes and are not good for your paint.

You will also require a full driving licence for the category of vehicle you wish to drive.

Yes, of course. I forgot about that - I have had a full licence since the invasion of Troy so I forget about how many Prov drivers there are here. This is a big no no & not accepted by the UK cops.

As long as you have european plates , ie the white ones with IRL ( or whatever ) in the left hand side this is enough.

In theory you need to keep your ferry tkt to prove this is a temp import.

Beware , although speed camara's can't catch you , if you get stopped speeding you CAN be arrested and your car impounded.

    Useful website

Make sure your breakdown insurance covers you, if you break down on the motorway it will cost you a fortune otherwise. Also FILL UP with petrol here its MUCH cheaper ( unless you use that stupid garage on Ushers Quay :) )

I drive there ( UK ) a lot , you will find driving easy enough , although motorways are very fast ( the de-facto speed limit in 80Mph in effect)

Vehicle registration document would be handy in case you are unfortunate enough to be involved in any accident/theft situation that requires police intervention etc.

    Check list:

1 x car with EU plates
    1 x full driving licence
    1 x Insurance cert
    1 x Vehicle Reg. Cert.
    1 x ferry ticket
1 x subscription to the AA
1 x big friendly smile (if I get into trouble):D
