    Well now that i have your attention...:D

    nah lets stick with the title.
    It has been running through my head for the last week or so, 1J doesn't seem to be alot when plinking in the back lawn so snipers must be at a huge disadvantage, so why doesn't someone(that ever present patsy who's only use is to do work i should) fire off a letter to, whoever is in charge of the firearms act, and ask for a slight alteration, in the form of a little bit of side legislation stating something along the lines of;
    Devices - excluding pistols - that use either, energy stored in a spring*, compressed gas, or an electric motor that are unable - through design or modification - to operate only in a semi-automatic setting (1 pull of the trigger fires one projectile**) shall be deemed to be firearms, only if they have a mussel velocity of above 2J.
    * Spring shall refer to a cylindrical compression spring only
    ** Projectile shall refer to plastic spherical projectiles of diameter 6mm or 8mm

    I dunno, just a thought, we should probably be happy airsoft is legal at all (why do people capitalize the a in airsoft?).
    Opinions?

    Lets just get ourselves protected before jumping off this bridge.

    Actually the fact is the only reason Airsoft is available now is because the limit is where it is at.

    You require a power of 1.35 joules to cause a lethal wound (i.e. a wound that is worse than superficial) and as a result the firearms law was changed to reflect this because the outright ban causes too much trouble for the cops and legislators alike (plus it would require the rounding up of every single kids toy in ireland).

    For the forseeable future the limit will remain and any changes would likely do more harm than good.

    If you want to play at those velocities you can always head to England where the laws are different.

    I got some condoms....so im protected enough.

    Ehm, i think in england they have the best airsoft Joule law. Semi and full autos can only go to 1J. Bolt action (snipers....) can go to 550 (2J?)

    <snip>

    Lads, as much as you might want the English system that isnt what we have.

    You really think the government would go out of their way change the law so airsoft snipers can have an advantage over AEG users...?

    If the joule law is changing any time soon, it'll be going down. Not up.

    People should just enjoy what they have and leave it at that.

    Oh and Arcto, even if you're only joking, don't make comments like that.

    What o1s1n said. As it is, its legal which is enough. I dont think for the sake of a small group of Airsofter (the snipers that is) they are gonna change it. If they leave it as it is for the distant future, im happy enough, just once they dont bring it down.

    So what, anyone can say anything they want if "they were only joking"? Reminds me of when kids ask or say something stupid and reply with "I was only messing"

    People don't know if you're only joking. Its a text based forum. Can I see your face or hear your joking voice? No.

    2. Even if it was a joke it was a pretty stupid and irresponsible one. So cop on.

    If a comment is stupid I will censor it.

    Because I usually am.

    Genghiz I wasnt getting short with you just laying out the facts. we have airsoft because of a technicality, a loop-hole if you will. there was not a single thought given to airsoft at its inception and believe me when I say that right now we are a blip on the governmental radar. No one is going to change the law to allow potentially dangerous equipment into the hands of the general public just to satisfy a fringe sport.

    Consider that they have almost hobbled martial arts during the the last issue ofhte CJB and the weapons amnesty and Eskrima, Iai-do, Shoto-Kan and various other martial arts use weapons as a regular part of the syllabus - the government didnt bat an eye lid making things difficult for them, they would sink us if we were to get shirty with them right now.

    Anyway, as I said, the only way the firearms act is going to go is down. Not up.

    Be happy with what you have.

    Closed.
