I have price lists in exel saved in my documents.I also have copies saved as a shortcut on my desktop.I normally open the ones on my desktop for convience and everything is fine.Since last week when I open these they don't seem to exist anymore.I have to go back into my documents.Even when I delete my shortcuts on my desktop and set them up again the only thing that seems to be there is the exel symbol and the name of the file.If i open the file it says that the filename doesnt exist. When i receive an email with attachments I cant open them I have to save them first.Anyone any ideas please its driving me mad

Sounds like excel is corrupted. All the files are saved as .xls i assume.
If they are i also assume excel does still function itself if you open a blank spreadsheet?
Best bet is to uninstall excel or the complete MS office & reinstall it. It won't delete your files while you're doing it.
