Japan's Warp-Speed Ride to Internet Future

    Hi Guys,

Article in todays Washington Post with the subject lines header:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/08/28/AR2007082801990.html?wpisrc=newsletter&wpisrc=newsletter

"Broadband service in Japan is eight to 30 times as fast as in the United States -- and considerably cheaper. Japan has the world's fastest Internet connections, delivering more data at a lower cost than anywhere else, recent studies show."

Now if you go down to the tables on the right the average US connection is like us - 2MBps. Guess what Japan is 61MBps. And probably cheaper than our 2mbps. Depressing.

More so when you read this bit:

"Accelerating broadband speed in this Japan -- as well as in South Korea and much of Europe [ not inc Ireland - Aidan ] -- is pushing open doors to Internet innovation that are likely to remain closed for years to come in much of the United States [ and Ireland - Aidan ] .

The speed advantage allows the Japanese to watch broadcast-quality, full-screen television over the Internet, an experience that mocks the grainy, wallet-size images Americans [ and the Irish - Aidan ] endure.

Ultra-high-speed applications are being rolled out for low-cost, high-definition teleconferencing, for telemedicine -- which allows urban doctors to diagnose diseases from a distance -- and for advanced telecommuting to help Japan meet its goal of doubling the number of people who work from home by 2010."

I mean guys we are not at the races AT ALL and the economy is getting screwed for it as well as NOT being able to innovate. Sickening!

    Aidan

download 1,500 high definition HDTV channels simultaneously. Or, if
there is nothing worth watching there, she will be able to download a
full high definition DVD in just two seconds.
