    I looked at possibly buying this;

    http://www.registryrepairpro.com/ash

    'Safely clean and repair your Windows® Registry - Registry Repair Pro'

    to see what was the catch ... € 9.99 seems for nothing.
    All AShampoo software is so cheap :confused:

    The page that came up for my credit card no. did not have a padlock on the status bar.
    Doesn't that mean it's not secure ?
    Whan you check their assurance that it is secure, they pop a window saying;
    Our site uses technology that ensures your personal and payment information is kept confidential and secure.

    ABOUT SSL CERTIFICATES

    Shopping on our site is safe!

    When you provide us with any personal information including your name, address, e-mail and credit card number, it is processed over a secure connection on secure servers. We use Secure Socket Layers (SSL) to encrypt all information you provide before sending it to our servers. SSL is the industry standard and the best software available for secure ecommerce transactions.

    The VeriSign (PayPal) Secure Site Seal assures you that this web site has been authenticated by PayPal and that confidential transactions with our site are secured by SSL encryption.
    Am I wrong in thinking it should have a padlock icon ?
    How do i know it's not a phisher ? (Microsoft reports that it's not a registered phishing site, but warns you anyway..)

    I'd say the Ashampoo site would be safe to use, they are quite known and been around for ages. However you should be able to find a free tool that does a better job.

    Microsoft's regclean is too unsatisfactory .........tell's you nothing.
    Running it is an act of faith. I like to know what was wrong and get conformation that it has been corrected.
    I'll try regseeker :)

    The core point of the question tho' was the ref to the padlock .
    Does it have to be shown on a page to indicate a secure site ?

    I always thought so, but I am not 100% sure. I'd say ashampoo site is safe anyway.
