    HMV PS3 deal.

    Console + 2 Games + 2 Blu-Ray films + Sixaxis for £425/€628.

Anyone know of anything better, or if any price cuts are due soon?

so it should start coming down here.
Actually it will most likely not as they instead "offer a more competative package" as they like to call it (a.k.a. two hand controllers etc. instead of a price drop).

To the OP I would strongly recommend importing one instead as the price difference is staggering in Europe compared to the rest of the world and PS3 is the only console (one of it's few redeeming features) with out a region limit.

is this the only restriction?? will games etc be ok to play on an imported console (ie from the US)

Excluding stuff like power plug type and the implications of warranty (as in you're a US customer and hence might be asked to ship it to a US center for repairs) yes. Randomly checking blue ray movies on Amazon shows none with any region either.

They have started implementing region coding on Blu-ray afaik.

Have they not got a letter region code on the blue ray disks.

Worth checking out as they are a lot cheeper in the US.

little bit behind on the whole blu ray thing - if one was to get region free (if thats possible) blu rays - they would play on imported....to be honest i want the ps3 just for PES8 but would the european version play on the us console?

    Skipping PES7? ;)
You could always import the games, there are a few good online North American e-tailers who ship here.

You know we are only on PES6 now, right?
PES7 is out in November and should be region free but online play could be region locked.

Have both and games currently a bit rubbish on PS3 (, should improve by Xmas.
So Xbox 360 for now but PS3 is the future ( I shoulda, woulda, waited but couldn't!)

Be careful this could descend into a flaming war like in the console forums. My advice, browse through with an unbiased opinion and listen to both valid points about each console.

ya ive seen so many of these forums at this stage and still cant make my mind up on the whole thing....think that the ps3 will be better long term but I am very impatient so am tempted just to go for 360!

Hi, could someone help me please:

    1. A US PS3 will play European Blu-Ray Disks?
    2. A US PS3 will play European Standard DVD - Disks?
    3. If a region code is introduced for Blu-Ray, will this impact the Standard DVD player on PS3 - i.e. restrict European DVDs on a US PS3.

    Thanks

    K

There is already a region code for Blu-ray.

    1. Not if they are region locked.
    2. No
    3. Already won't work.

    2:No, not at all

Yep as far as i know the games are region free

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 835 ✭✭✭Slipshaney

thats excellent - thanks for the help.....just to confirm so - i have someone coming back from the states soon and was gonna ask them to pick up a ps3 over there...
Am i correct in saying that:

    - games from anywhere will play on the machine?
    - the only restriction is that the power supply is different from over here and the European region blu rays will not work on it (but US ones will?)

    Thanks again.

Shane, so even though not all the DVDs will work you are going to buy? Are you not limiting yourself?

I'd imagine given that you can buy a region free DVD/DIVX player for about €30, that he would still save far more by going for a US PS3.

BTW even if you buy a EU PS3, you probably still need to get/keep a cheap DVD player as the PS3 will not play DIVX and XVID files.

hi lads - thanks again for all your help....to be honest, i have a modded xbox so just watch all content, etc on that - so sorted that way....as regards blu rays, i could pick them up from time to time from across the water but not too pushed.
