    Hey!

Looking for digital SLR for beginner to intermediate. Is the canon EOS 440D a good option?

    Thanks all

I think you're mixing two models there....

The 400D is a good beginner camera, The 40D is more intermediate level. If you're just starting out, I'd say the 400D would suit your needs. Either of the cameras are good options though, just depends on how much money you want to spend

Okay thanks for the reply. My limit is €1000, I'm not interested in macro...just sport shots, landscape and night shots

Then I'd stick with the 400D. For the €1k you'll get a couple of lenses too (depending where you buy)

a good cheap lens would be the 50mm 1.8 for under 100 quid. After that it depends on what your needs are.. Zoom / wide angle

I got the 400D a couple of months ago and am very please with it, I ordered it on eBay from Digital Rev and got a kit lens and 55-200 lens included in the deal. I recently bought a Canon 24-105 lens (bit expensive) but decided to invest a bit. Good luck and look forward to seeing your photos!

I also bought a 400D last year and am very happy with it.
I bought two zoom lenses but the one in the the "argos" link - the 28-135 IS - is my favorite (so far!) adds a lot more versatility as well as a lot more "heft" - the plastic kit lens is so light in comparison!

Amie.g I'm thinking of ordering the same camera from Digital Rev can you let me know if you got hit for VAT/Duty ? What were they like to deal with ?

Can anyone let me know if their international warranty is worth anything.

    Thanks

Just to confuse you a bit - Olympus E410, Pentax K100 and Nikon D40 are all very good dSLRs too.

At least give them a look before just deciding to go for Canon (which is a very good brand obviously).

Nikon D40 fan here :) (check my flickr account in signature!)
