Help me decide what TV service to get

    Hi All,

I just moved into my new house and I have awful reception for the 4 Irish channels, so I want to get a proper TV service like chorus or sky or something. I live in Enniscorthy in Wexford and chorus informed me that they will not install their mmds service in my house as a house in my estate failed a signal test.

So what does that leave me with? I dont particularly want high charges for the service and I dont need movies or anything but I would like to have decent sports, mostly soccer and rugby.

What are my options and what are the costs involved?

    Thanks in advance...

Chorus isn't a proper tv service anyway. This leaves you with Sky. Through Sky Digital you have access to all the sport channels.

Well Ive been reading posts on lots of forums, some of them say you can point a dish at some other satellites and pick up all the soccer matches for free etc, is this possible or just dreaming?

You can get the basic Sky "2 Mix" package for 21.50 euro a month. You can then either go with Sky Sports ontop of that or go for another sports channel like Setanta.

The Sky.com/ireland site shall give you info on the choice of packages and how much extra the Sports channels are. Setanta are seperate and are 18 euro a month for 9 channels iirc.

Sky service would be a lot better than Choras I find.

You dont need to subscribe to get the basic BBC and ITV channels -see "free to air" sticky threads

If you have a multisatellite FTA you might have some look finding free football on satellites other than the Astra 2(Sky/BBC) satellite but its rather hit and miss and the recently some satellites (like Turksat) have taken the football channels off their "West beams"
