Anyone know how one would go about becoming a private detective? Is there a course in it (I think I remember seeing one advertised?), would one usually work for a company or just set up on there own? Anyone know if there is an association or website I could have a look at to learn more?

Its something I think I’d like, I’m rather lazy and love sitting around in the car so I don’t think id have much of a problem with that side of things, nor the unsociable hours it throws up. Just something id look into when im back from my travels?

    Also interested in this :)

I'm sure I heard an interview with a PD before, and it seems that alot of them were retired Gardaí who had developed alot of contacts over the years. Can't remember the exact details, but I remember being a bit disheartened after hearing it :p

It's not a case of sending in a CV as far as I know...

    "Skills:
-can blend in even in the most questionable of crowds
-'hide and seek' champion of 1996
-developed skills of covert photography through years of voyeurism"

    :p

Seriously don't bother. The market is saturated with wannabes, just look in the golden pages. Basically any joe soap with a camera can set up a company, but the ones in the field for decades are retired gardai. It's not as cushy a job as it sounds.
