    Hi,
I am planning to go on a trip around the world, Destinations are: Australia-New Zealand-South America-North America-Home. But I heard alot of the packages are confined to 1 year (usit). I just want to know if there are any packages that last longer(2 years)?
If anyone has any info. please pass it on.
    Thanks, David.

I myself would also like to find out about this.
    Maybe 2 seperate rtw tickets?

Lads I'm just after posting about this in a separate thread. I just realised this also. RTW tics are only valid for 12 months. I wanted to travel for around 2/3 months, then work for a year in Oz, the another 3 months through south America on the way home. This would be about 18months.
I think instead I'll have to get 2 one-way tickets, one to get me to Oz and one to get me home. You can have 2 stop-overs on a 1-way tic and as far as I can gather they can be for any amount of time.

I'll be down to trailfinders during the week to get the lowdown!

    Thinking something similar.
Would like to do OZ and NZ but over 2 years of course.
My first trip would be something like this
Home -> Bangkok-> travel around SE Asia for about 2 months -> Bangkok to Adelaide -> Overland to sydney -> NZ

return then might be NZ-> Hong kong -> OVerland to toyko via China -> Toyko home.
This might take another 2 months

The above would be year 1+
The 2nd year would be home to South America to oz to africa to home.
    Or something similar

Want to make the most of my time away.
Would it be possible to get a RTW ticket but pay a small extra to use it after the year, in a form of penalties?

I asked this in USIT, and she pretty much said no. But USIT seem pretty useless. I'm going to check this in Trailfinders this eve hopefully, I'll let you know what I find out.

Yeah so basically I have to get 2 one-way tickets (Trailfinders are WAY better than Usit btw). It's gonna cost about €2600. A RTW ticket would be about €2200 anyway, so it's only €400 extra for the extra 6 months.

    What are the stop overs?
And how many stop overs do you have?

Trailfinders seem to have better staff then usit

I'm not 100% sure how it works. The number of stopovers and the mileage is linked somehow, I think. Basically I was looking at 2 options:

    1. Dublin-Fiji-NZ-Oz or
    2. Dublin-Japan-NZ-Oz

With 1. I was allowed 2 stopovers (Fiji and NZ) before hitting Oz for the year.

With 2. I was only allowed 1 stopover (Japan) before going to NZ - something to do with mileage. I would then have to buy a 1 way ticket to Oz from NZ (you have to have bought this before you go into NZ). So option 2 would cost an extra €150 approx.

It's not usit .. it is the air industry

you cannot book a flight in advance of 1 year

You can only reserve flights 11 months in advance (( im a travel agent ))
The majority of RTW's have 6 stops, at set destinations such as Bangkok Singapore Hong Kong Sydney Aukland L.A. JoBurh San Fran etc. Theres a list of about 20 but i feel are restricting...
Then there is your 7 stop. This one has very little restrictions and is an extra €200 approx. I feel you are better off flying into Bangkok and travelling yourself around Asia.. www.airasia.com is very good Then fly don to Oz, onwards to NZ and use your stops in South America where flights are that bit more expensive than travel around Asia.
You do need to get 2 1 way tickets should you wish to travel for more than 1 year. A standard 6 stop RTW costs €1233 + tax ( tax for RTW is usually cheaper than tax on a flight to NYC with Aer Lingus hah oh i love travel! roughly €250 anyway! )
A one way seat will cost you €840 + tax.. so there is a difference of approx €450 but this will give you freedom to do as you please...
    Hope this helps

    It does help thanks.

    I found this though
    http://www.gapyear.com/rtw/exclusive_extended_tickets.html

this would be perfect but for one thing ill be 27 at the time when ill be flying out.
Bummer! But if they offer it for students and 26 year olds then there might be a way around this.

Ill keep plugging away. New packages seem to crop up every so often.

What we are thinking now is getting a one way to NZ with a stop over is SE Asia. Work there. Buying a RTW ticket there that will bring us back to asia, europe, south america to oz/NZ, work in oz, and then one way home.

Of course we have to price this but we are too early as we are planning to start this in october/september next year. Ill wait until the new year
