Recommend a Driver change?

    Hi,

I picked up a Callaway Big Bertha II last year for €100 and proceeded to get it re-shafted by ProFit for a further €120. While I still quite like the driver, it's not forgiving at all (it's a 9 degree loft) and unless I'm on the top of my game, I find I don't 'middle' the ball at all, which means I can either produce a slight fade or draw depending i.e. nothing consistent. I was thinking about changing my driver and was wondering if anyone could recommend one? I know its a lot of personal preference but was hoping to buy something that suited my game and had a good shaft already on it. I play off 12 and hit the ball a little high.

    Thanks!

cleveland drivers all the way, I have the 10.5* Ti40 with stock fujikura shaft, so consistent, lovely feel and nice ball flight

great deal here on the HiBore, plenty of options

    I'd recommend the taylor mades - r7 425, r7 460 or the superquad.

I'd alos recommend making your own mind up by going to hit a few different ones and seeing which one you like best. What's good for one, ain't neccesarily good for another.

The ping drivers are also very nice and worth a look at.

Def Superquad for Me , have it 4 weeks and the difference is unreal.
Was using Wilson Deep Red 2 before

I can't believe ProFit charged you €120 for a shaft!

I use a Nike Sasquatch 9.5 degree driver myself and love it but it's such a personal thing that I can only suggest you try out a lot of different drivers to see which one you prefer.

This is an akward one a 9 degree is generally hard to move right to left and a higher degree say 10.5 or 11 is easier to move right to left but if you hit the 9 degree high how much higher will you hit the 10.5 or 11
It all depends on your natural shape shot let me know what that is and maybe we can work it out.

    Hi,

I was having this problem. Standing on the tee not knowing if I am going to hit left right or straight can be very debilitating to one's confidence. I use to lose most of my shots right so I got a Cobra which deliberately draws the ball for me and I much prefer hitting the driver now - I know I don't lose the balls right means I can set it off right knowing it will draw back to a greater or lesser degree.

    good luck anyhow.

If you are not sure if it will go left or right try hitting a few at the range and try hitting the ball maybe 30 yards shorter might help to make you more consistant. It is always good to have a safety shot to fall back on.

I'd defo recommend the G5, they are nice and forgiving and get a lovely high trajectory on the ball. Mine is 7.5 deg with stiff aldila shaft, thought I was a bit mental buying it but haven't looked back since, that was 18+ months ago.
When I bought it was playing off 12 too.

I used to have a similar problem even with the Cobra. I have the 460 F 10.5 wiith the regular flex shaft. I only got this fixed by getting help from a pro. It was all down to a problem with my grip..I was keeping the right hand too open. Now I overlock the rifght hand much further to the left which restricts my backswing but creates the right angle to follow through with the shoulders and keeps my drive straight

Just a thought, degree's of loft and comparing other peoples swings are kind of irrelevant if you ask me. I use an identical driver to a guy I play with, I am off 12, he is off 9, and I drive the ball much lower than he does. We both use 9.5 deg Taylor Made R5's.

My advice to the OP, is to go to a driving range where you can compare and hit all different drivers, and see what you like yourself. McGuriks out near Celbridge have a good setup that I used myself. The other option might be to get custom fitted for your Driver. It all depends how confident you are about knowing what you want..

As has been mentioned earlier, McGuirks in Celbridge closed down a while ago. They have a launch monitor in their Blanch shop instead.
