Ok, I recommend a Dell Inspiron 1520, that will play games. Although it won't play games like Half Life 2 and Battlefield 2142 that well. Other than that, it will run all 2D applications nicely and perform very well in general. The total cost is €999

You could also buy a Dell Vostro, but these are not built for gaming - at all. These are purely for business work and business work only tbh

How can you have 2 laptops with the same components and say that one is for gaming and one is "purely for business work and business work only"?? Is there someone looking over your shoulder to check what you are doing on it? Last time I checked, the graphics card decided what games could be played, not the branding that Dell places on it...

    Complete bollox.

I would recommend a vostro as they are hands down much cheaper than the inspiron. Bit of a wait time though. Approx 2 weeks.

If you want to hook your laptop to your xbox (media streaming) you will have to get either Vista Home Premium or Ultimate (Ultimate is an optional upgrade on the votros.

TBH, if its not going to be used for gaming your budget is prob way too high. E600 would get you a very decent comp. Put the 400 towards upgrading in 18 months time if your needs outgrow the machine.

How do you know what vostro I was talking about?, I could have been talking about the Vostro 1000 worth €349, which, by the way, IS, like I said, purely for business work and business work only. ;)

It should. Just get as much memory as you can afford (2Gig would be ideal).

Its rediculous really. Vista takes up half a gig of memory. They shouldn't really even be selling vista machines with less than 2gigs:rolleyes:

When you describe someone elses contribution as "Complete bollox", make sure you don't talk "Complete bollox" urself 2 paragraphs later. Advising people to fork out cash for an operating system upgrade when free software like Orb can stream media just as well is nothing short of, what is it, "Complete bollox".
    ;)

Agreed, thats why Linux is used on 90% of all systems

At the other side of my office wall is a room full of linux servers, none of which have crashed for as long as i can remember. And nothing beats a linux envoirnment for coding. But aside from using 3rd party progs like Wine, VMWare etc. the fact remains that Windows is on 90% of all systems because of the software it runs and Microsofts very large advertising budget.
But that is completely off the point. Orb runs on Windows, does everything useful that MCE does, and installing it on ur computer won't prevent u from running commercial software. So u can have an operating system like XP Pro, which is far more stable and far less resource hogging that Vista, runs all the programs u've paid for and have experience in, and still stream to ur XBox 360.

Ladies, take your Windows vs. Linux debate elsewhere.

Actually even that one is pretty good for Half Life 2 and Counter Strike Source. :D
