Spark plugs

Can anybody tell me how long spark plugs usually last. When should they be replaced.? I typically have a long journey doing about 120kph and I seem to be losing power in the highest gear. I think the plugs that are currently in the bike have about 10,000 kilometers on them.

I don't have the tools to unscrew the plugs myself and check their wear and just wanted to check if the loss of power is related to the plugs.

depends on the bike and the plugs.

Iridium plugs usually last 20k miles

    Two-strokes eat plugs.
    On four-strokes it varies.
Hard starting is more likely to be a plug problem than what you're describing.
Sounds to me like you're not getting enough fuel flow for sustained high speed. Check fuel lines, tap, filter, vent, float bowl levels if you have carbs, fuel pump if you have one.

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

are the prices for motorcycle plugs well over priced in Ireland?

    62.64 euro for a set of 4 for a cbr 250!!

Re fuelling that ninja touched on - check the air filter too. You could blow out dirt with an air hose. A dirty filter reduces air flow into carbs and air/fuel mix won't burn well.
On my last bike, I used to change plugs every 6000 miles. They cost about 30 euro. This was more of a preventative measure as I don't like to be without bike for daily commute. A mate who has an SP2 has to pay 160 quid for a set of 4 'special' plugs. Some extra performance thing.
