Getting RTE and using satellite?

    Hi,

I'm planning on getting the satellite from Lidi's this thursday, but wondering, can I still get RTE? I don't think you can get RTE from the satellite(?). I've got an aerial on the roof, so wondering how do I use feeds from the two of them? And will I have to run twin coax from both the dish and ariel to the TV?

    thanks,
    Justin

with your existing setup as it is, just connect the new satellite receiver to the TV with the supplied scart. Your RTE channels will remain opperational exactly as they are now.
RTE is available via satellite but requires a card a Sky box and payment to Sky in order to view it.

    Hi,

I wondered over the same problem. My aerial was in the loft space, but I only have one run of coax cable running under the plasterboard down to the telly in the front room.

As I'd used this coax cable to feed the STB for the satellite I was a bit stuck and didn't want to run another cable.

So , I bought 2 'combiners' from satellite.ie for a €10 each. One in the loft, into which I fed the analogue aerial and the satellite feed. The other 'combiner' was used to split the signal at the other end, with one feed to the STB and one to the telly aerial socket. (Note which side is the 'power' feed for the satellite).

There is probably a far easier way of doing this, but this was my solution (any other suggestions?).

It works a treat, but as I have an old tv with only one scart plug I need to find some sort of adaptor to join the scart plugs from the video, DVD and satellite. At the mo' we have to swap scarts:o

This is the perfect solution, Works great for me too..

I found Maplins in Dublin to be a good place to get all the normal aerial to f-type female adaptors and F-type cable ends.

Not too expensive either. Don't think satellite.ie has them, but not sure.

Do sat boxes exists which accept ufh/vhf input and add these channels to the channel listing so that both terrestrial and satellite can be viewed on the same box?

Not that I'm aware of, unfortunately. I'm open to correction though. There have been TV's in the past that had Sky Digital integrated (LG for one made IDTV's), though that was with its flaws also.

Maplins have a box which seems to be a combined Sat reviever and Freeview box, not sure of the model.

Oh, its very possible to get boxes that have DSat and DTT tuners in them. Some boxes allow you to add various tuners into them, so you can have choice (Reelbox for example).

I was thinking that Danny meant analogue terrestrial signal combined with the digital satellite, so apologies if I took you up wrong.

you can also get a scart converter, plug all of your scart leads on to it, then it plugs onto the t.v. all in 1 scart converter

    And that acheives?

He's looking to get one EPG with the Irish analogue channels and his DSAT channels on it - which is not possible. If he lives in the DTT trial area, a DTT/DSAT combo would allow that, at least during the DTT trial.

Is he? I any case, I believe that the poster was referring to "Galaxie390"'s point about having to swap SCARTs.

    Getting RTE and using satellite?
    Hi,

I got the satellite system from Lidi I was hoping to get RTE and UK channels from the satellite. Other posts seem to say I wont be able to get RTE. Should I be able to pick up BBC, ITV, CH4 etc?
I got it set up, and did a scan on Astra 2 satellite at 28.2E. Found 100's of channels, including Sky News, BBC world, but not the UK terrestrial channels, or indeed Irish ones.

    thanks,
    Michael

Do you also have loads of German channels? You may have tuned into Astra 1 by mistake, Sky News and BBC World are on there. (There's no BBC Wolrd on Astra 2, as far as i know)

You might have to twist your dish a bit more to the east to lock on to Astra 2.

I bought 1 of those as well. When I read your post I connected it to check if the channels were tuned. There were albeit only 99 tuned in on Astra 28.2E. This would suggest that your dish is pointing at Astra 19E as both BBC World and Sky News are on Astra 19E on Frequency 11597V. As far as I know BBC World is not on Astra 28E. Check the freq and if it is 11597V then you will need to move your dish a little to your left looking from behind. Its a common problem when aligning the dish getting the two sats mixed up as many of the transponder frequencies are the same on both. When you do get it pointing to Astra 28.2 you wont be able to watch RTE1, RTE2, TV3 or TG4 however you will be able to use them for Teletext. The Irish Radio Channels are unencrypted

My typing is slow. I began my reply before lennoxschips had replied.
