My father is 52 with a full head of hair, as is my mother. Both of my grandad's had full head's of hair well into their 70's/80's. I'm only 24 and since last year my hair has been thinning? It's starting to get noticable now.

If it's not hereditary - what could be the cause of it?

maybe you have some vitamin deficiency, vitamins form B group are important for hair. maybe some minerals? silicon for example. You can find it in horsetail extracts. Diet supplements with barm are also good for hair... And try some conditioners:) Just treat your hair well.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but you should look up the norwood chart of male pattern baldness and see does what you have show up. I am having the same problem for about 3 years and im nearly 23, but my hair is thinning all over my scalp, not just receding and leaving a patch, which makes me believe it may be diffuse alopecia.
