I'm uploading my photos to photobox.ie for printing ... I've hundreds to upload... I've tried uploading on both my eircom bb and also thru 3g... both are so so slow..... I've only mananage to upload about 250 photos over yesterday and today!! argh..!

Has anyone got any other suggestions as to using different company/ uploading in some other way etc... oh, I just installed the google picasa program to see if it was quicker to upload thru this... but it wasn't...

    Help!!!!!!! Thanks.

ps: just noticed the thread on pix.ie - will this site eventually have an option to print/upload to printing company?... txs.

Picassa is quicker but it auto changes image quality unless you change the setting..

you could try using the FTP upload instead of through that superbly dodgy java applet. There's a link to it on the upload page. Best to use something like fireftp (if you're a firefox user) with it. Works a charm, although with a large number of photos, it'll take the photobox website a while to update when they're all uploaded.

thank you both for quick reply.

to use the ftp option... i just have to download fireftp (i use firefox) and then I can use this to upload to the website?... do you reckon it will be quicker?.. Have you used it?

Thanks so much for the help. I'm now trying to upload in smaller batches... 36 photos takes about 1.5 hours......:(

back when I was uploading 210 images I used fireftp for to upload directly to photobox servers and it was a good deal faster.... course then again I'm on a fibre connection at work so that eases the pain of uploading hundreds of 4mb images...

What size is each image and what size are you looking to print them at?

try bonusprint for cheap and efficient prints. they have free software that you download to your computer and then upload the photos to them

Upload speed on eircom is typically 256kbs as far as I remember, doesn't matter where you're sending them. What I have generally done is set them off over night and let them go while I'm asleep. You sound like you've a lot to do. Short of making the file sizes smaller which may not be desirable, you may not have many options. Do you know how much you have to upload to Photobox in MB terms?

it really annoys me that with a 2MB download speed I have such a paltry upload speed. I wish they'd sort that out.

That used to annoy me no end... Which is why I went for a symmetric wireless connection in the end. 1mbit download may not be the fastest in the world, but having 1mbit upload helps the situation greatly! :)

    Hi justagirl,

We will indeed be offering printing from pix.ie (this is very high on our priority list), but it might be a number of weeks before we have a permanent solution in place...

Wow, you could get away with halving that anyway. When you export in picasa you can alter the size the images are exported at. You could drop it down a few notches to see what the size comes out like.

rymus..... if you don't mind - in laymans terms could you please tell me how I use fireftp pls? on the fireftp page - I have to set up an account - Account name (what is this?) ,Host (is this www.photobox.ie?)

Gosh, I'm a bit behind the times .... actually, I'm totally behind the times.... its times like this that I feel like buying a new polaroid..!!:o

if you install the fireftp extension first, then restart firefox. Go to the upload page on photobox and right click the link that says something like "upload with ftp". In the right click menu, there should be an item "open with fireftp" or similar. That'll pop open the fireftp window and automatically connect to the photobox ftp server. You shouldnt need to enter any hostnames or usernames etc..

Should then just be a case of dragging all the photos you want to print to your temporary print album folder.

Don't watch it. Like I said, i usually set it off overnight and go off and have a sleep. Practical use of time.
