I'm specing up a laptop for my sister on dell and I want an OS disk with it. When I got my inspiron in October I had an option to get the OS disk with it (cost a couple of euro) but I can't see that anywhere now. Do dell ship the OS disk now as standard?

Your thinking of the restore CD, as John said, this usually comes with it.

If you ring them they should be able to send out a new one to you

In the days of XP only you could add an os disk to the order for 5 or 6 euro extra. That day is gone. Since Vista was released all Dell systems come with the os disc automatically.

PC I ordered for a client last week came with the Vista re-installation CD? (Granted it's a PC, not a laptop)

What happens if you need to format?

That's what I am planning on doing. This is why I am looking for the OS disk.

Just to be 100%. The disk that dell ship with the inspirons can be used to do a format and reinstall. Is that correct?
