Roofer problems

Has anyone had experience dealing with difficult roofers ?
I agreed a price originally with my roofer and he is now looking for money for "Extras".. 2000 Euro to be exact.

He did put in 2 extra Velux Windows. Any ideas of the standard cost for putting these into a new build (ie. before slating) ??

I did make his job easier by putting in concrete floors upstairs eliminating the need for floor joists upstairs which was in his original quote. He has also been working on the job for 9 weeks now which was supposed to be 6 weeks. This has incurred an extra cost to me of 450Euro in scaffolding as well as me postponing stonemasone which I had lined up.

I am debating if I should give hime the money for the 2 Velux or nothing at all...

2K is for fitting the 2 Velux and other extras which I do not agree with as they were in the original price ie. higher ceilings upstairs than standard, lifting up timber to (cut) roof, cutting roof vents in along with slates.

I want to pay him for installing the 2 Velux but not the rest of the items which I think he is chancing is arm on... Whould 300Euro/window be about right ? They are the large Velux windows.

    should make no difference

:D surely he's joking, that's a part of the job!!!

installing the velux's....it's the same amount of work
to install a large window as a small one i think 300/window is too much

    i reckon he's having a laugh

becareful how you go though in treating this guy, you've a long way to go
    to finish your build

I think it is just his attempt to get more money as the job has taken longer than planned. Mostly due to them not turning up though. I've heard all the excuses from sore knees to sick dogs. My BIG mistake was paying him some money weekly. Never again. In future I'll agree up front to pay at the end of a job or at agreed stages. Agreeing a weekly sum is an invitation for them to take their time. I had been warned about paying weekly but the guy seemed genuine at the start......aarhhh

I got a quotation for fitting Velux for 160 Euro which seems a bit more realistic.

fitting a velux is never as straight forward as replacing old windows ,having a higher than standard ceiling is no different than any other ceiling unless it is very high , 12 foot or more.Once a builder bull****s you you then need to let him /her know that you know. Im a builder and I do as I say and no more or less but when you sometimes run yourself into the ground you dont always get the thanks or recognition you deserve. But it is also nice to have home owners come home to find a bit of work done and for them to be over the moon at what a foreman would just tick off and then give you another job.Its always hard to make that call as to when its time to get rid of them, the biggest problem i have had is when, even after explaining it in detail they come back on day two or three and say"they will be sliding doors ,wont they?". The answer of course was no.
