Just wondering is this a new event or is it going a few years, I'm signed up for the sprint section and wondering what to expect.

I second that, anyone know anymore about the whole weekend? Is the atmosphere good? I'm doing the Olympic myself on Sunday afternoon. All i know is the course looks tough and the b&b's are expensive!

Yep, would be good to know more.

This is my first triathlon (trying sprint distance), and the following page describes the course:

    http://www.irishtriathlon.com/loughreatriathlon/map%20sprint%20and%20relay.html

Anyone able to read it and comment on it's technicality (or not)?

The race briefing says a cut off of 30 mins for the swim! Surely this is for the sprint distance only? I'm fcuked otherwise! Can anyone confirm this?

^^ Forget that- just heard back from the organisers, 1hr for the oly, 30mins for sprint.

    Phew!:)

    Hi Guys,

    seb here the race Director.

it is the first year we organise it, but I train many athletes there for triathlon and the club train there too from may to september.

the main website is www.loughreatriathlon.com and the club website is www.irishtriathlon.com.

The atmosphere will depend on how people will be on the day, weather etc... but we will try to do our best to make it better.

Regarding teh swimming time I did made a mistake in the pack, cut off time is 30min for sprint and 1h for the Olympic.

Just keep in mind this is a low key event, and that €20 or €25 euro we really squize the budget. So no T-shirt this year.

The bike is technical so be prepared :D and bring a puncture kit and a bright cap for the swim.

    Talk to at the weekend.

I wasn't able to do it due to injury but my g'f did it and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge. It was low key but it seemed to be well run, well done to everyone involved.

Has anyone here done this triathlon before? The sprint one, I mean. I'm looking for a race report, or something similar.

    Is the course hilly?

    What's the swim like?

    Hi,

I know that locteau above wasn't involved in organising it last year so the links above won't work for information. A quick google should show up some race reports and try predator club for more info.

I did it last year. It was only my 2nd triathlon. The swim is beautiful. It's in the lake in Loughrea. The race is really well organised by the Predator Club. The cycle is hilly in spots but very managable to all levels. The run is an out and back with a tasty hill on it! :D I don't think you will be disappointed if you sign up for it!

I did the cycle leg of this last year. The weather was absolutely atrocious for it...prob the worst day of the year! Even so, we all had a great time at it. The cycle was reasonable, but dangerous on the wet surface.
It made me wanna learn to swim so I could take part in a solo tri but I still haven't gone to lessons...:(
