This story touched me, I'm still thinking about it now.
I thought about posting about it at the time, but I didn't because I thought me might be found alive.

An American free rock climber was swept away off the west coast of Ireland (Kerry) last month. His body was never found.

    His website is here:
    http://www.freesoloist.com/

A blog including his Irish adventures is here:

    BBC news:
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/6898711.stm

His wife and daughter flew over here, I was very, very tempted to drive down from Antrim to attend the memorial service. I'm still not sure why.

Did anybody else hear about this?

edit/ mods - I have no interest in adventure sports, and only heard about this through news.

Yes its very sad Oriel, But I guess his family, friends and fans worldwide can take comfort in that he died doing what he loved.

    :(

It's a pretty dangerous sport. I'd be surprised if him and his family weren't prepared for something like this to happen sooner or later.

    Pretty rough still.

That's really sad. To think his last entry on his website was about coming here and that it would be his final trip...

True, it looks like a risky business - some of those photos made me dizzy! Looks like he lead some life by climbing. There's every chance it was going to claim his life - i wonder if he ever thought it would though. I guess it's like Steve Irwin, if you put yourself in a dangerous position so many times.....

Climbing without a safety line is one of those things you should give up if/when you have kids.

Makes him a complete twat IMO.

I know what you mean Voodoo_child... Once kids come into the equation you gotta reconsider!
