50 grams (g) = 771.62 grains (gr), so I'd say the OP meant 'grains.'

Unless, of course, he has a .50BMG, or a .577 Tyrannosaur or some such. :D

What kind of damage does a 50 grain .223 really do by comparison to a 50 gram load in a 12 bore?
(at the range you would take the shot at)

I've hot foxes with 64gram BB loads under 30 yards. Not a mark on them.

I've hit foxes with 50grain hollow points at various ranges. Depending on the angle of the hit and area you may see nothing if it entered the front of the chest and expended all it's energy inside the fox. But, when you pick him up you hear the "sloshing" sound.... Alternatively, it can create large exit wounds, sometimes quite a bit bigger than your fist.

I'd show pics but I don't think they're suitable tbh.

Same, the shot gun doesnt leave a mark when shot further tha about 15 yrds!! But the 223 does alot of damage no matter where you hit him!!
Has amazing effects on grey crows!! litterly halves them!!

this post was a while ago, and ive learned a few costly lessons since, the sps
imo opinion isnt a great gun by any means its the cheapest remy you can buy, i have since changed to a steyr pro hunter .243 a much better gun. the vls is much better anyone thinking of buying a sps reconsider.

Would have to agree totally there!
SPS and VLS is like comparing a donkey with a race horse!!!
But its twice the price fully kitted out!
Paid almost 2000 for fully kitted VLS!

I've found my shotgun fairly unimpressive too, the heaviest load I have is 50g.
Looked into getting a rifle a while back but changed my mind when the restricted list was tabled.
I know i'm doing hunting no favour by backing off, but i can't afford to spend so much only to have the gardai take it off me a few months down the line.

Right well im not im much of a position to comment as i dont have either but im sure ive read somewhere benchrest maybe that the sps is as good as any other remmy the stock is just terrible and with the amount of aftermarket stocks available it could be a cheap option just do a bit of research before you buy could pick up a second hand sps cheap and restock it and could have a cheap accurate hunting rifle

cheap yes accurate no way, i had one and it was the worst rifle i ever had, my cz.22 bruno is more accurate than the sps.

    I mean not renewing a .223 or a swift.

    This is panic about nothing.

The new legislation will clear up all of these grey areas. If you have sufficient reason to have this firearm, you will be able to licence it.

This is not a banned list, it is a restricted list.

Have you seen this "restricted list" or is this speculation?
