    I volunteered myself as the lead photographer for a children's beauty pageant... and got accepted.

    It doesn't pay, but it's work for a non-profit (I'm involved with two groups here), and it's incredible exposure in print, online and on national TV. I'll recieve full accreditation in print and online.

    But I haven't a dog's notion of how I should do it.

    It's a mix of backstage candid and runway work, as well as formal portraits. In short it's a lot of work over three days, and if all goes well, and excellent reference for my resume. My business cards also arrived and I can whore myself in front of 500 pairs of parents who want to glam their children.

    Advice, people. :D

    ++

    Plus, remember: "Never work with children or animals. Children, at any rate."

    Start viewing the stage and backstage areas, if they're up. Get a feel for the place / see what lighting is available and report back :)

    Check lighting, see where's going to be used. Set up lights if possible, synced to you camera if flash, if not, try get a peek at the rehearsals to see what light is going where.

    Backstage is just your normal, run of the mill type shots, with some arty posed ones too.

    sounds good, did you think of how your going to keep the photo's separate from family A & B ?
    Your going to end up with a ton of photo's and trying to get them organised for the parents may be a nightmare ? Just my thoughts, I've seen photographers with the photo's on a message board (real, wooden one, not on-line :P) with their number on the back so you can order more, then you charge :)

    I can imagine the bit after the photo shoot being a head wrecker, I hope not, just something to think about :)

    Maybe two softboxes at the end of the runway. Dont worry about the pressure just think about how to maximise the exposure. Maybe try to organise some photoshoots before the main show and get them into the press to promote the event and yourself..
