Wow yeah it was one of only two games in our local "arcade" I was crap at it but my mate was great so I'd just bask in his glory!

Ah, Wonderboy. That brings back a lot of memories. I remember first playing that arcade version you mentioned in a pub in Ballybunion in, oh, think it was 1986 or 1987 when we were on holidays (Christ, that's 20 years ago! I really am getting old! :D ). When I got my first computer, an Amstrad CPC464, Wonderboy was one of the first games I remember getting for it. My sister, in particular, loved playing it and would hog the computer for hours playing it, much to my annoyance! Have to admit, though, she was pretty damn good at it and used to get further in it than I could! :D

When MAME came out a few years ago, the Wonderboy arcade ROM was one of the first I downloaded as well and it brought back tons of great memories. Ah, nostalgia, eh? ;):D

We have the coin-op board for it - my dad used to fix arcade games. When you start it shows about 5 charms - like the shoe, teddy etc that you get after killing each boss so I figured I would clear it to see what happens - I thought he would be reunited with his girlfriend ala 80's games like Jungle King or Ant Attack. Sadly it took me 3.5 hours to realize it didn't end - the levels kept coming! My hand was killing me afterwards! :D
