Transfering thunderbird

I've just gotten my new laptop and am installing all my programmes on it now - One of which is Thunderbird.

I already use this on my existing PC, but that'll be going to my brother so I won't be using it anymore... is there a way to transfer my TB account information from this computer to the new one? I'd like to avoid having to go through all the setup crap again but most importantly I'd like to have access to all my emails and feeds straight away, rather than having to go through them one by one (and still lose some of the older stuff, I imagine).

    Thanks.

Use MozBackup to backup all the emails, settings, etc on your other machine and then restore the file onto your laptop.

You can copy the files in your Thunderbird profile to the folder Thunderbird creates on the other PC stored in <drive>:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\<random>.default\.

The profile folder's name is generated randomly so it will be different unless you change it or paste the old folder itself.

Or, as Ruu said, use MozBackup. It's probably less painful.

Thanks for that - I tried MozBackup but couldn't restore the profile on the new PC.

I took ethernet's advice and transfered that file - renamed it to the random name Thunderbird (on the laptop) had given my new default profile and replaced it - job done.

    Many thanks.
