What exactly is a ‘multicam patch’ and a ‘firmware’ – and what do they do?

Can these Patches/ Firmware’s be applied Astra 2? Do you get more channels?

Do you want to access television channels illegally?

If it's to access channels illegally, then no discussion will continue on the subject here.

Firmware upgrades are generally to improve how the STB works, fixing bugs, adding an odd feature, etc. Sky boxes do this automatically over the air.

I'd presume a Multicam patch to be for STB's that have a card slot (like Technomate 1500 or Dreambox), where the patch gives the card slot a purpose (eg, make it a Conax slot, so you can use a Conax viewing card in it).

I will reiterate, that if you're thinking of receiving Pay TV illegally, you should post elsewhere, as such discussion is out of bounds here.

No - I don't want to do anything illegally... HONEST!

It was just when i did a bit of reading around google searches - people seemed to say with patches they got more stations and what not...

It's just on my receiver - a 'Golden Interstar DSR-8005 CI Premium' BBC1 NI, BBC 3 and BBC 4 are not working? Any ideas what to do?

I also spotted on GOOGLE people saying to enter in KEYS - maybe this is how i can get these missing stations???

The patches you're mentioning, and the keys, are illegal!

You don't need any patching or keys to receive BBC, as it's transmitted Free To Air over satellite.

Perhaps your receiver hasn't got the frequency that BBC 1NI is on in its database, and will need to be added.

You could simply do a full scan with Network Search (NIT) ON, as this usually adds in the missing frequencies.

    Otherwise, manually add the frequency.

    Contradicting yourself there.

    Not necessairly ??

    It could be FTV channels.

And the poster specifically mentions BBC's 1 3 and 4 which are niether FTV or Subscription
