Ok, I'm looking to buy a bike in Dublin today, around 300 or so plus locks etc, and for commuting as well trying to get/keep half fit etc.

Are Cycle Super Store ok? Any other recommendation? I'm in the city centre and would be leaving sometime in the next hour or so.

EDIT: I know there's a few in town - can anybody recommend one of them?

(BTW, I normally plan thing a bit more, but have been putting it off since my last one was stolen, and was planning on getting on at the end of the month (ie after getting paid), but I've to be in work early tomorrow morning before public transport would get be there and I don't fancy doing a half hour plus walk before work and early in the morning.)

Cyclogical on the quays near the Halpenny Bridge and Cycleways on Parnell St oppostite the back of the Ilac centre are both excellent shops. However you will not get much for under €500 in either shop!
There are a couple of bike shops on Camden St either side of the Palace Nite Club. You might get more bikes in the €300 price range in those 2 shops. Best of luck

Unless you have other good reasons not disclosed in your post, for the sake of a 30+ minute walk earrly tomorrow morning I would say you are not wise to be rushing out to promptly buy a bike without having done proper research first. All I can say is 'buy in haste...repent at leisure'.

el tel - I was thinking as much, but I really have to question if it matters that much with my limited price range.

I know what you mean monument about the price range but at the same it would be a shame to make a quick purchase and sell yourself short. If you are not that fussy on what you get why spend €300 when you could get something used for even less? If it were me and I needed *any* cheap bike to tide me over and to do the simple job of getting me to and from work I wouldn't spend €300 on a new one (if such a thing were available)...instead I'd get something second hand and hopefully not have to spend more than double-digit figures on it. Even if the €300 was burning a hole in my pocket I'd still seek out either a mega offer somewhere or, much more likely, find myself a decent second hand bike which would likely offer better quality at the price.

Good luck what ever you do.

Joe Hollingsworth cycles lower Kilmacud road I think - I have to say best of the bunch I tried and they're doing 10% off for cash at the moment - They put more effort into getting the right bike for me than all the rest put together and I went to all of them believe me.

el tel, somewhat taking your advice into account I spent a bit more - ie not buying a cheap MT bike and spending a bit more, or rather not buying a MT at all. I suppose I had such in mind as I had use for a MT before living in the city.

On not getting a second hand bike, I suppose there were/are very illogical thoughts at play in my mind about bicycle ownership - my bike was stolen, so I wanted something I could purely call my own (there's also the whole point that you can return to a retailer if things go wrong etc).

I use a specialized hardrock ,rigid. It cost me €400 and I'm very happy with it.

Bought it in cycleways a couple of years ago.

Ehh, I think you're a bit late. He was looking to buy a bike 9 months ago.

Didn't spot that. His last one is probably stolen by now and he may need another. :)

Seeing as it's 2 years ago, I'd say he has bought the bike already.

Got anything to back this up, or are you just competitor bashing?
