I was hoping to head to Australia in 2 months for a year with maybe a stop off in Thailand for a few weeks. My friend that was due to come with me has pulled out but I've already handed in my notice at work my visa has been approved and I kinda have my heart set on it. I dont really want to travel on my own. Does anyone know of websites where you can meet travel buddies or people that are in similiar situations?

Any advice would be really appreciated...

    Cheers!

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I done the whole Oz thing for a year, not on my own though. However I did meet a load of people that had started off on their own but met people in the first hostel that they stayed in and ended up travelling with them for ages. Once you get over there stay in a hostel for the first while and I guarentee that not only will you met a load of people, but you will meet at least one person in the same situation as yourself. Just particpate in any Hostel activities for the first few nights.

Thanks all - just had a look at the gapyear website and it looks pretty cool! I'm going to book my flights on Monday I was thinking of doing the 7 stops with Clubtravel but I've heard that its not a good idea to limit yourself to certain places for a specified time so I'm not sure if I should just do the one stop in Thailand (or somewhere similar) on the way?

What would be the best starting point for Australia some are recommending Sydney others Perth and Brisbane. I'd like to do some travelling for a month or two before finding a job...

    Any ideas?

    Thanks again!
