Hi I hope this is the right forum.

I have a question about a computer that can access all of the internet except anything that you have to log in to eg. gmail, vodafone, aerlingus flight purchasing etc.

Is it just a simple matter of something that should be switched on or is it more of a big problem? (i have deleted all cookies and ran AVG spyware)

    Thanks,
    C.

Does a error come up at all? Or can you not fill in the box's?

attach a screenshot if you can.

    Hi Anti

This is what happens when I try to go anywhere that requires authentication eg.gmail

    "The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings

    Please try the following:

Click the Refresh button, or try again later.

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.

To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
See if your Internet connection settings are being detected. You can set Microsoft Windows to examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings (if your network administrator has enabled this setting).
Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.
On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.
Select Automatically detect settings, and then click OK.
Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed.
If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
Click the Back button to try another link.

Cannot find server or DNS Error
    Internet Explorer"

I have pretty much tried the above but still no luck!!

Could be something to do with your security settings.

Go to Tools > Internet Settings > Security and switch the security to the lowest setting. Restart your browser and try access gmail again.

Thanks for you replies. Am beginning to think comp is quite sick!!

I just put the security right down low and that didn't do it either.

Is this a home computer or are you in work?

It is a work one (I have reversed the security again!). I thought it might be just a quick and obvious thing that I just had to switch on! Looking like its not though.
    Thanks for you help.

By the sounds of it, since it is a work computer they have disabled some ActiveX setting or such like to prevent people using email or the likes of MySpace/Bebo. ask the IT department if this is the case or if there is something up with the computer. What is the work policy for internet use?

Could also be MTU related. Might be set too high on the network. Either that or they're blocking port 443 (https).
