I'm thinking of getting into this airsoft thing. Can anyone give me a rough figure on how much it costs to get sorted with a basic kit?

    Hey artanevilla,

Im fairly new myself, so I've been scouting round for the best prices.

Theres a few options: you can start out with no kit, just attending HRTA with rental equipment, I think thats around 45-50 quid.

Second, you can go try just with a basic one gun package: www.eirsoft.ie have some great models for entry (and possibly intermediate level) players, all between the 100 and 150 quid mark. I myself just bought a G36C for 115 I think, along with a gas blowback pistol for about the same.

From all the research I've done, thats the best initial option, as while his stock is a tad limited in comparison to the bigger international airsoft suppliers (www.uncompany.com for one), he does stock good quality stuff, all of which have had great reviews from every supplier I've been to. And usually theres a very short delivery time.

If you do want to go a bit more whole hog, you could go for a high end AEG. These can vary in price, most starting at about 150 up to anywhere under a grand.

As for kit, you'll be able to skirmish with one of these straight out of the box, but theres a few things you might want to tack on to the price tag for your own personal comfort or benefit.

Goggles for example, Im not sure if HRTA supplies, but you can get a decent pair for under 15 quid. Apparently a high quality pair of snowboarding goggles will suffice, if you happen to have a pair lying around. Thats apparently, Im not sure if they're ballistics checked. (someone should confirm that probably)

Really the price tag is endless. Things like camo (anywhere from 20 quid up for a pair), walking boots, full face masks (vary quite a lot in price, probably get an entry level one for about 20) extra mags (10-20 depending on build quality) scope for your rifle (anywhere from about 40 quid to 300) night vision (200 or so for a helmet mounted one) tac-radio (aldi sometimes have em in stock, or you can get professional quality ones for about 80 bob).

    The list is really endless.

If you want a gun and thats it, about 120 will do.

If you want full hog, take out a mortgage. :D

Cheers for all that. Reckon I might head down to HRTA before I buy anything. Is it okay to go on your own? Or do I have to persuade a few lads to head out with me?

Well I havent been yet to be honest... but from what I've heard, everyone very welcoming. Let you have a look at their kit and whatnot (that sounds wrong I know).

However, as we all know, doing things on your own is difficult, and its always nice to have someone you know to fall back on and blame for breaking somones sh1t, so I guess its up to you.

I'll tell a few of the lads about it so. I'd say it would be a good day out anyway.

Anyone know anywhere that sells tactical vests at a decent price? I've see a few on ebay for about 35 dollars but then you have to pay something stupid like 30 dollars for postage

well its a case of wants versus needs i think. if we exclude the hrta rental options for everything excluding boots

    i think you need

    needs
boots (good ones and preferably waterproof)
    goggles (mandatory)
aeg (kinda difficult to play without one)
    bb's

    wants
pretty much whatever else you can afford!!!

i always mistake wants with needs with regards to airsoft. so i want a big charger becomes i need a big charger. well as it happens initially you need a standard charger but eventually you will want a good one...its all a matter of timing. do you need bdu's, no but i want them.

so the price of the aeg becomes a case of what you want to spend so you could play smart here and choose a good reliable but cheap one. so you could do airsoft on a budget but it is incredibly addictive...you have been warned!

Figure €50-ish for a good first outing at HRTA

See if you like & if you wanna come back for more - in the affirmative, then it becomes worth your while spending some.

Figure €100-ish for a good-quality clone with battery/charger (Gunner + Rsov can be a false economy: if you get custom'd, it'll be just as much as Eirsoft)

Figure €50-ish for basic goggles, a few 000s BBs and 1 or 2 spare mags (Eirsoft, HRTA, eBay or adverts in here)

Figure €100-ish for good boots/ basic bdus (eBay, local surplus/work equipment)

    'Tis about it.

Then get your wallet to fasten it's seatbelt :D

Clone AEG €100+(Inc Batterie and charger:) )
    Mask €10
BBs €18 for 5000 off paul
Boots - Not necessary but handy for wet days - Price varys
    camo €50+

€200 will do you grand I'd say. Have you skirmished yet because i strongly advise you do first so you might get an idea of what kind of AEG to get.

    I am captain cheepo!

If your going to a skirmish everything you need is supplied. At home all you need is your gun because your only going to be target practicing. You can go to hrta in your ordinary cloths it's not ideal but muck washes out.

Bare minimum you need a gun. €120. Everything after that is icing.
    Figure €50-ish for basic goggles
 You can get ones that stop nails from an airgun for €15 or less.

AEG - get a clone from eiroft.ie - quick, cheap, reliable
Camo - eHobbyAsia on ebay are a great source for cheap gear
Boots - not essential, but you'll want a GOOD (expensive :() pair as soon as possible
    BBs - hrta or eirsoft.ie
Mask - all down to preference, but you can rent a mesh mask from hrta when starting out
