I know there are many female hygiene products on the market, but can these be dangerous (ie cause cancers) or are they safer to use than regular shower gel or soap?

    I've found this link:

    http://www.springerlink.com/content/1872580621455l10/

But I'm interested in hearing from anyhealth professionals on here what they think about the safety of these products.

Right. The more you post the more i'm convinced you're a troll.

What's a troll? I guess it's some kind of insult.

I think anyone using these boards (as on many other forums I know) is entitled to ask genuine questions or discuss matters of concern, don't you?

If you have any further snide remarks to make, PM them and don't waste space on the boards. If you don't have a helpful reply, please don't bother posting at all.

Some of us do have genuine concerns and the last thing we need is people like you being smart. Remember that there is a person with feelings behind each post, something that is quite easy to forget in cyberspace.

Throw up a picture of your beef taco and we'll let you know if you need anything for it.

Whatever it is, it's nothing a good stiff one won't sort out tbh.

No, I won't take this to PM and i've reported your post to the moderators because even if you aren't trolling, you are asking a stupid amount of inane hypochondriac questions that could be answered by going to www.google.com and doing the research *yourself*.

This board isn't a team of health professionals here to cater to your every whim.

i think lola run asked a serious question. and to be honest, i think its the string of posts after she posted her original question that need to be deleted. this discussion should be about a genuine concern to do with the safety of body cleansing products on the feminine genital area. it is not a discussion for low brow antics relating to "beef taco's".

Oh PLEASE. Look at her other posts on here, they are questions she could easily answer herself.

The majority of medical professionals would warn people off these sorts of products because they do more harm than good. If you have odour or discharge ** GO AND SEE YOUR DOCTOR** - don't try to mask it with a perfume or use harsh cleaning products that upsets the natural balance of bacteria in that area of the body.

I totally agree with eth0_, lola_run asks many questions she could find the answers to easily herself. Loads of hypochondriac style questions and other posts in other forums about how unhealthy the rest of our eating habits are.

I think lola_run should go have a very long consultation with her gp and ask all these questions. Though as she seems to distrust all health professionals, she should probably not bother, coz these people clearly spend their time spreading lies and failing to tell ppl stuff.

And as for beef tacos, it's a public forum, you'll always get the odd funny comment, it's refreshing, we're not all old and boring :P

OP, Best way to clean your bits is to mix salt and water.

Of course, it isn't a team of health professionals. But I want to promote discussion, get ideas from other people.

And yes, of course, some of these questions could perhaps be answered by Google and/or my GP, but then again, how many other questions in all threads on boards.ie could also be answered in other ways? ;-)

Plus there's no law saying we have to 'google' everything! People would stop communicating if that were the case, no?

Back on topic, I just wanted to know if many other people here use those vaginal cleaning products rather than shower gel and why, can they be dangerous? Have there been any studies done on this?

If you don't have have a relevant reply, please do not post.

It's quite simple Lola, but i'll spell it out for you:

You don't need to use chemicals to clean a self-cleaning area of the body. Just as your nose produces snot, your vagina produces mucus as part of its 'self cleaning' mechanism. Do you use a douche or a chemical to clean your nostrils and ears??
The chemical and bacterial balances in the vagina are easily upset by soaps and other chemicals. You can develop thrush or an infection if you use vaginal cleansing products on a regular basis.

As I have said already, if you have an abnormal discharge or smell, do not mask it with some spray - **go see your GP!**

Etho, you have almost 7000 posts!

C,mon, Relax. Your obsession with lola's posting is becoming more annoying that what you're complaining about. It's just an interweb forum ;)

You don't have to read her posts!

Yes, but i've been on here for six years :-)

I'm not obsessed with her posts - just bored in work. But you're right, i'm going to ignore her, the last thing she needs is people pandering to her hypochondria.

I think that special products are better than shower gels. they're milder. Just use pharmacy products not these from supermarkets;)

They're not mild though. If you're concerned about harsh chemicals, use Lush or Burt's bees soaps and shower gels. I find since I stopped using shower gels without sodium laureth sulphate my skin is a lot softer and i've stopped getting random itchy patches on my arms and legs.

Not really, seeing as boards is a discussion forum, not an information repository.
