Cycling home from pub

    Hey,
I've only been on this forum for probably the last month.

In that time, I've noticed a good few mentions of people cycling home from the pub, or from nights out.

I can obviously see how it would save money on the taxi, as well as the waiting times. But, is this actually safe? Is it legal?

How many people on here would say they do/have done it?

also, IF you wear a helmet, I doubt you'd bring it clubbing with you? What about other bike related stuff? like clothes? Would ya cycle in your "gorgeous" clubbing clothes? ;)

Safe? To varying degress. Legal? Doubt it!
If you're cycling in the city centre drunk, you're a serious danger to yourself. But if you're at a suburban pub and you want to save an hour's walk to your suburban house, probably not such a danger. I couldn't possibly comment on any personal experiences I may have had.

I would advise you don't do it, because its illegal ;) But if you do, always with the lights, a jacket and a helmet which are have cunningly locked to the bike so you don't have to carry them into the pub, and don't forget to tuck your trouser ends into your socks so that they don't catch the chain :)

Guards made me walk my bike home before. I was playing a game of kick the other guy off the bike with some french people ( who couldnd speak english, dont ask me how we came up with the game). The guards came round the corner just as i was kicking a french guy off my bike, the french guys couldnd explain that it was my bike but eventually just walked off leaving me with bike. i went to cycle home and the cops stopped me again and told me to walk it. in fairness, i could barely walk it home.

Think another time i cycled home after a litre of whiskey and woke up with scabs all over, like on my face and arms and hands and stuff from falling so many times

so cycling while drunk is bad imo

Cycle home from my friends house after a few drinks fairly regularly. Just a cul-de-sec and an empty park to pass through so never had a problem with it. Would never do it if I had busy road to go near or some where with lots of padestrians.

Not usually a cyclist but the best fun I've ever had in dublin was cycling home from quinns to marino via o connell street.

Even took a notion to park the car and buy a bike to cycle in and out of college....but it passed again.

Ive cycled home 10km+ drunk in the Netherlands many times, and all the cars know that every young cyclist on the road at 4am is drunk, it works out.... plus theres cycle lanes in cities, proper ones, and on country roads, theres no hedges to get pinned on, just big gripes, so plenty of room to bail away from the car!

In Ireland, I have done it from the city centre to Clonskeagh a good few times late at night, but at no time was i ever in any doubt as to how vulerable i was
