I think you mean that your handicap is 27.This means that you are allowed one shot on all eighteen holes plus a second shot on nine holes. You are allowed the second shot on the hardest holes ie holes with index 1 to 9.Therefore for example: par for hole 4, index 1, your score 6, you are allowed two shots so you have a net par so you get 2 points.
    Example two:par for hole 3, index 18(easiest hole on course),your score 4
With your handicap you are allowed 1 shot.Therfore you again have a net par so you get 2 points.
Example 3.par for hole 5 index 2 your score 9.
    You get no points.
This makes sense to me but is probably as clear as mud. Will work out your score and post again.I agree with other post.20 points is correct.

    Consider this....
Stableford scoring as a scratch golfer (handicap of zero)
    4 for an eagle
    3 for a birdie
    2 points for a par
    1 for a bogey
    0 for worse than bogey

A handicap golfer receives shots on certain holes depending on their difficulty - this is the index on the card

So a 5 handicapper gets a shot on each of the index 1 to 5, an 18 handicapper gets a shot on every hole and you as a 27 get 2 shots on index 1 to 9 and then one shot on index 10 to 18.
So the first was index 15, a par 4 and you shot a 6. You receive one shot on that hole so that 6 is a net 5, a net bogey for 1 point.
Fourth hole was index 1, a par 4 and you shot a 6. Your 6 becomes a net 4 because you receive 2 shots here so its a net par for 2 points etc....

The beauty of stableford is that once you go beyond a certain level of rubbish, it no longers matters... so a 12 on the hole is the same as an 8, you still get zero points so you can have a disaster on a hole without ruining your card

Forgot to add that since 2 points for a par and 18 holes on the course, a score of 36 points is efectively playing to your handicap, a net par on every hole.... and a very good score.
40 points is like 4 shots better than your handicap etc...

It will take time for you to get it but we have all been there.

The thing to remember is what you end up with.
What i mean by that is the index is very important you are playing off 27 that means from index 1- 9 you have 2 shots and index 10 - 18 you have 1 shot.

For example on the 4th was a par 4 index you had 2 shots there so you take your 2 shots away from 6 you get 4 which is a par and 2 points.

say on the 10th hole was index 12 par 4 you had a gross 5 you take your single shot off that which gives you a net par 4 2 points again.
    Table
    eagle 4 points
    birdie 3 points
    par 2 points
    bogey 1 point
    double bogey 0 points
I hope this helps you if you have any more questions shout.

Only one little mistake, it should have been 3 pts on the 14th.

Yes, it is a lovely course but the clubhouse is poor enough, one of the most beautiful places around and they don't utilise the views, poor design.

Yeah only mistake was on the 14th you actually had 3 points.

Good par on the 8th looks like you are getting the hang of the points system.

Wooden Bridge is one the most beautiful golf courses in Ireland played many a time.

I seem to be getting the hang of it Ninja. Thanks for the help. As for the 8. I think that was my best ever hole. Went way wide of the green but had a immaculate chip shot and one putted which was odd for me.

I love the course the avoca flowing through. must be in play on at least nine or ten holes making it a bit difficult. But I am getting better. And so I should be with all the money I am spending!!! but well worth it. Getting a bit hooked.

    Cheers for the help
