Been playin casually for 1 year now, never had a lesson. Can bluff my short game fairly well, its just I have a very inconsistent long game, one day straight and long, the next...short and slicey ;) I just want to know are there any things you can do to ensure straight shots with the driver and long irons, I'd sacrifice length for accuracy. I have a good grip (strong left hand, 2 - 3 knuckles visable etc), good straight left arm, club goes to parallel sometimes past, I think I cock the wrists a bit too much and I try to keep my hips from goin right on the back swing etc. Maybe there are drills people know off etc

Does the ball line up with your Left heel? (assuming your a right handed player).

Try opening your stance also. (Move you left leg back a bit in your stance)

Well when I line up I find that my feet point fairly straight and parallel to each other as oppose to how most people stand with their toes pointing a bit out, the ball would be inline with the inside of my left leg. I'm fairly sure my address is decent, I've a feeling its some moment or thought in my swing thats makin me slice.

OPH it's very hard to give you a definite answer. There could be something really small that your not aware of thats throwing you out. If your sure that your setup and grip etc. are pretty good then it might be a good idea to see a pro, even for one lesson.

Would agree with previous poster. Get a professional to have a look. Soliciting advice from a messageboard is definitely not the way to go. Two reasons

    1) There is no substitute for watching someone swing a club. It is the best way to see where someone might be going wrong.
    2) Most people who offer swing advice are not qualified to do it and even with the best of intentions will probably make most problems worse

sounds like your not turning the body and shoulders you can get away with a small amount of turn with the short irons but in my experience i think you have to turn the shoulders at least 90 degrees to have any chance of creating a draw from right to left.
you mentioned that you feel that you use your wrists to much this is generally a sign that you dont move your body and shoulders enough.
think about it if you stand and just ove your hands your wrist will hinge straight away but if you move your body first the wrists wont hinge as soon.

just something i picked up at a lesson.

    hope it helps

I've been playing golf for a long time (35years) and recently changed my clubs to Callaway x20's and a king Cobra F Speed driver . Like the OP I had very inconsistent driving . I was murdering the ball until I met a pro in the local driving range recently. His advise to me was to change my grip. Left hand rotated more to the left and right hand overlocking way more to the left. Right hand overlocking to the extent that my back swing nearly felt awkward. If fact it felt that it limited my backswing so that I had to use my wrists at the top of the backswing. Result shoulders and club going through the ball at the same time . My drives have gained 30 meters and my drives are now 90% of the time straight rather that 90% inconsistent . I hit 300+ meters in Deerpark this morning and 39 stableford points . I couldn't believe the difference a samll change in my grip could make. He also advised turning your right foot ever so slightly inwards to create a coil which helps the follow through.

Get some advise from a pro and practice...only way to improve
