Advice For Interview??

    Hey i have an interview in HMV tomorrow, its for part time sales assistant...just wondering does anyone know what questions they might ask??? would they be about music and that?????
    and also what should one wear to this interview?:confused:

    any advice will be greatly appreciated :o

    I would say just be your self

    Dont overreact, dont show any signs of nervousness.

    When interview is offered that means they are willing to offer you the job
    it depends on how you take it :)

    They are probably going to ask you loads of random music questions, so you had better do your homework :p

    They'll ask about previous work experience, why you want to go for the role, what skills you have that would make you a good employee, etc.

    Dress in a nice shirt and good trousers, nice shoes. No runners, jeans, or tops with writting / characters. If you have any tattoos, make sure they're covered for the interview (HMV might not mind tattoos, but best to be as professional as possible)

    Be yourself - don't be too nervous and be honest.

    What crap.

    Offering someone an interview dosen't mean you are willing to offer them a job. Offering an interview means your CV matched the requirements for the job in question. I've conducted about 50 interviews in the last few months, from probably c. 120 CVs.

    Some CVs look great but you know within seconds the person has hammed it up or is a total moron. Other times your not sure about the CV but "give them a chance", turns out they great candidates with just OK CVs.

    To the OP, good luck, best tip, is to be yourself, try not to be too nervous (the intervewers will also be nervous!), be honest, don't claim to have masterminded a company takeover if you worked in the postroom.

    I actually agree with digitally-yours, and it's a little harsh to call his advice a load of crap.

    If you're offered an interview it means you're defnitely suitable for the job. The purpose of an interview in my opinion is

    1) To make sure what's on the person's CV (especially interests and achievements) are not grossly exaggerated or just false altogether.
    2) To meet the person and make sure they have a good attitude.

    I know this might be slightly different in higher-up positions where there might be 10 candidates and only one job, and you are actually going in with something to prove.

    In the case of the OP, my number one tip is to be really enthusiastic. Go in, be really positive and confident, you don't have to reinvent the wheel, just be yourself (think everyone has mentioned this!). Spend an hour or so preparing answers to basic questions like "why do you want to work here etc.", because when you get in there you'll be surprised how your mind can suddenly blank and you just can't get the words to answer some relatively basic questions.

    Its just a slaes assistant job so just dress neatly, be there on time, be upbeat and friendly, try to be yourself. Expect a if a customer ask you this ...... what would you do type question. Make sure to say how much you love working in a team. You will do fine. By the way in most retail jobs if they call you for an interview that means provide you look ok and are normal they will offer you the job.

    Anyone reading this post in the future: if applying for a job in a music shop, mention on the CV that you like music. Went for a job in Virgin once, and the fact that I didn't mention my love of music in my CV went against me in the interview. Most music shops want you interested in music. Any music, at least.
