i've a cunning little scheme up my sleeve, but before i further my little scheme i'm looking for some resources on RAZZ strategy. books or online? cash or tournament, both are good.

also what sites are best for razz, my guess would be stars!?

    thanking you.

You have to get your hands on the book Sklanksy on Poker. This book contains his earlier book Sklannsky on Razz which is no longer in print. This is agreed upon by all as the best resource.

Razz strategy is very thin on the ground and I can't recall reading much good online apart from some contributions in the stud forum on 2+2 from top razz player bigrapes and the like.

Although I first played razz on FT I played it pretty much exclusively on Stars. The games were easy enough but there were some players to avoid at 30/60, can't recall their names off hand as it's been a while now since I've played on Stars. Up to 3/6 was still like taking candy from a baby when there was a lot of traffic, but traffic did die as it did with HORSE when players got bored of the novelty.

In fact the best spot to play razz is in playing HORSE because it is the game people knew the least in it, and the things they would do would leave you open mouthed at the ignorence of them, basically they hadn't a clue. Not that they had a clue at stud h/l either but there they could lucksack 1/2 the pot, razz you just crush them.

What's your cunning scheme btw, and is it as cunning as a fox who has just been appointed professor of cunning at Oxford University?

once again lloyd has sh*t in the shoe of creativity by rubbishing my idea! but might as well share my latest plans for not going broke in three weeks online. having read yet again about Katja Thater's bracelet in this years WSOP razz tournament (she is in EVERY poker mag at the moment) it gots to thinking like a cunning fox who has just been appointed professor of cunning at Cunningham University. here is the latest scheme, and i'll give €10 euro to anyone who completes the challenge!

start off with €200 euro, or approx $250 dollars, a reasonable deposit but withing the reaches of even the cheapest players. Hit the razz tables... hit 'em hard!!! tourneys, cash, sit and go's, whatever, basically razz razz razz... the idea is to get your $250 dollars up to $4000 dollars comfortably by next year's WSOP. you cant just spin $250 in one jammy sitting into $4000 playing above your bankroll, cos that's boring!! and you wont build up essential razz experience... which is vital!!! so then you take your $4000 and...

Flights to vegas in summer 2008: $1000
Accomodation in vegas for about a week: $750
Spending money for a week on the cheap student style: $750
Buy-In for the 2008 WSOP Razz Event: $1500
Being the first boardster to win a bracelet: Priceless

also, it in theory gives you the chance to play against top pro's and in the WSOP, which most people assume you need $10,000 for the main event for!

Anyone, its the bestest plan ever!!! :D

i came up with this plan while having a bowl of sugar puffs this morning, so feel free to "correct" not "destroy" the plan!!

My oh my, that would almost be fiendish.

Having discussed where Jeff is going with this on the phone 5 minutes ago; I can confirm that his plan is not fox - like in nature.

oh really, OH REALLY!?!?!?!? see above post, i respectfully disagree!!!

I played a lot of razz earlier in the year - everything from 8/16 to 30/60 on stars on ftp and did very well except for the fact that I find playing limit games to be comparable to watching paint dry. Your profit in shorthanded games comes from stealing antes. When you come to playing more full ring, be selective with your starting cards. I found that completing with an ace up will often get you raised by a 2 or a 3 suspecting that u are on the steal.

The single biggest mistake people make playing razz is to continue a hand if their opponent catches good and they brick on 4th. Ideally, you want to have a good hand on 5th with 2 draws to improving. I'm not really sure if I can offer much more.

I believe Tom McEvoy is writing a new Razz book actually. I have the old Sklansky Razz book and if there's enough interest, I'll loan it to someone who would be willing to scan it. I couldn't be arsed.

This is not a good plan, you will have committed suicide before you get to vegas. I enjoy razz occassionally and went through a razz faze myself a year or two ago but I don't recommend playing razz every day for a year.

i'm playing razz a lot more online cause i want a break from holdem..and deuce to seven lowball draw..that is a quality game that all should play

you'll have a hard time winning with a years experience compared to 20/30 years of experience from the old pro's

Razz tournies get very very very random late on. Worth noting, it's why many pros despise the WSOP razz event.

    Does Alan Cunningham teach there?

Anyhow, even if you were the greatest razz player since sliced razz, or the birth of the razzberry (ok I'll stop), you would still face variance.

You'd have an edge, and the tournament numbers would be smaller than other bracelet events, but, variance.
