Maps with monuments

    Are there any good maps that show old artefacts on them?I live in North Louth so any for that area or does anyone know of any interesting monuments in the North East?

    You could try hitting your local library for the Archaeological Inventory of Co.Louth, that is a list , description and national grid reference for all sites in your county. They are fascinating to browse through. They are also listed by townland and type.

    Otherwise, try and get the 6inch maps from the 19th century. Often good at identifying was used to be there but isnt anymore.

    A great site is irishantiquities.bravehost.com It has photos and descriptions of nearly 1000 Irish mounuments! Buy the current local OS map if you're interested in existing monuments.It's kind of hit and miss though as many are on private property or may no longer be there.

    The Louth Inventory is the best in the country. The Discovery maps series is also very good for showing you where monuments are.
