I'm looking for some 8GB flash MP3 player. So far I like the Sony NW-A808 - even if I will have to put up with ChronicStage

Any other recommendations? I hear lots of good things about the Cowon iAudios, but I'm not sure which ones are good (too many differenrt models!) and no one seems to sell any 8GB ones (well OK, I've only really looked on Komplett and Amazon).

What I'd be looking for mainly is decent sound quality, AAC support (FLAC and Ogg Vorbis would be nice too), something not too big and with decent battery life. I'm not bothered about video playback. And I don't like the Nano :D

I have the NW-A808 myself and I'm very happy with it, a great player. If you have any questions I'll do my best to answer them.

The Cowon is a great player too, have a look a few pages back, there are several threads where it gets a mention.

The iRiver Clix 2 is supposed to be a great player, comes in 2gb, 4gb & 8gb sizes (link to 8gb)

Also, the iAudio D2 is nice looking, with a touchscreen & stuff, 2gb & 4gb models but with a slot for an SD card (so you can add like 8 or 12 gb if you need)
    (link to 4gb)

I've never used either, just going by reputation...

Yeah the iAudio 7 looks like a contender. The other two look too big though - as I said I'm not really interested in video playback so don't really want a big screen.

What kind of playback options does it have? Can it do album shuffle and playlists and stuff? Also, how are files structured? Does it do everything according to the tags like iTunes/iPods? Is SonicStage really that bad nowadays?

I take it www.advancedmp3players.co.uk is a good place to buy stuff from?

    Thanks for the help

I've purchased numerous items from advancedmp3players over the years
    without any problems whatsoever.

Seeing as you're not interested in video, have you considered
the 8GB Creative Zen V Plus - with radio?

    IAudio D2 gets my vote.

Best sound quality of any player I've had...and plays pretty much any format you can throw on it. Small and solid...touchscreen is a stroke of genius :D

Thanks for the help people - I think I'm gonna go for the iAudio 7 and get it from advancedmp3players. There's the new Sony NWZ-A818 coming out in a few weeks that allegedly dumps SonicStage for Windows Media Player, but I don't use WMP anyway and couldn't be arsed to wait :) . I think the i7 is more suited to my requirements anyway - I think I can live with no AAC.

I wanna try something different anyway - I have sold my soul enough to Sony over the years! (I'm sitting in front of a Trinitron, with Sony headphones, SE phone in my pocket, Sony hi-fi, Sony alarm clock... christ!).

    Can't wait now! :D

I ordered it on Thursday and it arrived this morning - I am very impressed so far. The controls/menu take some getting used to (firmware update made the controls a bit less spazzy) and the headphones that came with it were cack, but besides that I'm happy with it. Sound quality is amazing, even on pretty normal settings - I just have to get some Sennheiser CX300s now :D
