pc wont boot up.it trys to but cant

    Just started happening.

    I have the side of my case open and i can see everything. when i push the power button i see the fan starting and then stopping. any idea whats happened?

    That could be a number of things.

    To what stage in the boot process is your system getting too?

    Your harddrive could be knackered, do you have a spare you can swap in to see?

    Your ram could be knackered, if its a dell you should see warning lights at the back or front, or beeping.

    Another option might be to open your bios and see if your system stats are being reported right, such as harddrive and ram.

    doesn't sound like a windows problem

    have you disconnected the power and not just on/off

    it doesnt start up at all. I push the power button. fan trys to start. 1 second later it's off.

    it's not a Dell. I've unplugged everything and put it back in ... nothing working...

    I think it might be my power supply :(

    Take another look...it could be a fan has stopped spinning or is slightly lagging (cable touching off the fan causing it to overheat). Try reseting the bios on the mainboard (its a small plastic clip called a jumper) and bios should be printed beside it. Failing all of the above start removing adapter cards, such as gfx, soundcard, ram (test both sticks if you have more than one installed), tv card etc until you find the offending hardware.

    i want to try reset my bios .. how do i do that?

    Whats the make & model of your mainboard?
