Free gaff: Need beer. Keg suggestions?

Hey there, got myself a free Gaff all to myself for a week from 1st Sept.. Not gonna trash the place, just gonna get a good lot of booze and bring one or two friends and ladies home.

One thing for sure that I have to get is a bottle of Whiskey. Any recommendations? I've only ever really drank Southern Comfort and I think its got a lovely taste.

Another thing is... beer. I love Guinness and only drink it when I'm out in the pub or wherever it sells it. I go mad when I don't get a nice pint. Myself and Mulligans have never met, I want to go there.
Anyways, sure I'll get some Guinness stocked up but I want to try some other types of beer that are uncommon to most people and taste nice.

Kegs?.. Well I've seen a few empty ones about. Ok, I'm not talking about Pub Sized kegs, just the small ones that hold about 5 litres. I was told that I could get them in Tesco. If so, what type of beer is in them and does a tap come with it?

Any other suggestions for enjoying a free house?

I suppose Heineken ain't too bad. Might just give it a go.

    Cheers. ;)

Those small kegs are just a gimmick and, as the pump tap introduces air, not co2, it will cause the beer to oxidise. If you want 5l of Heineken, why not get 10 cans? That way, if you only drink half, the other half won't go stale in the next day or two.

If you want something interesting, Sweeney's in Glasnevin have mixed bottles of difficult to get German beers, for €3 a bottle, at the moment. There are some wonderful beers in there. Schinner Premium (Edel Pils), Loewenbraeu Trimphator Doppelbock and Unertl Weissbier are great, but avoid Eine Bayern Halbe.

Southy isn't Whiskey mate. Don't expect any whiskey to taste like it.
Southern Comfort is a fruit, spice, and whiskey flavored liqueur produced since 1874. It is made from a secret blend of whiskey, peach brandy, orange, vanilla, sugar, and cinnamon flavors.

    1 keg plus all the equipment €240 + €90 = €330

works out about €3.30 a pint

better off just getting a load of slabs!

Regarding Whiskey, Jack Daniels is very popular, but my personal favourite is Jim Beam. If you're a fan of Guinness, then I recommend a Jim Beam with a small bit of ice as a night cap with your last pint of the night.

Don't go getting sh*tfaced on whiskey though. You'll more than likely barf, get horrible stomach cramps if you're not used to it, you'll regret it the next day, and if you do it often enough you'll wind up with a nasty ulcer!

I've never really liked Irish or Scotch whisky (note the spelling), so would favour the Bourbons. You really need to try a few different ones to see what you like.

Jim Beam is far superior to Jack Daniels imo, much smoother.

    Cheers for the responses guys.

Thats new to me, that Southie ain't a Whiskey. Thanks for that :).

Jim Beam eh? My Grandad used to drink it but was I was too young to try any of it. Sounds good, will be sure to try it considering I am a Guinness drinker... as recommended above.

I'll still get one of those cheep kegs though, just gotta have one :D.

Regarding drinking too much Whiskey. Got really really really drunk in a scary way at a Polish guys house before. Drank Vodka, some Scottish Whiskey, Heineken, WKD and some German beer. I never want to do it again. Am lucky to be alive considering that I had to walk home about 3 miles. Don't know how I made it home.
But yeh, I'll use it as a night cap or something.

Again, cheers for the replies. :).
