    Hello,

The display on my G3 Imac (Summer 2000 slot-loading) has seemingly died (black screen).I have attached a VGA monitor to the port at the back but still no display. The hard drive and CD drive power up ok on start-up. I have also tried to reboot using the install CD but no good. I also tried the "target disc mode" to see if I could retrieve the G3 data but the G3 hard disc icon will not appear on the host screen, (although the G3 Imac is showing as an "unknown device" on the system profiler of the host computer.I have tried using the "Restart" button on the right-hand side of the Imac but it won't restart this way.
Does anyone know if the external VGA socket at the back works if the internal display is gone?
Have I any option but to remove the hard drive and try to retrieve as much data as I can?
Incidently, this is not due to the Firmware issue which affected some Imacs when trying to install OSX for the first time.

    Thanks.
