Maxdata laptop wont boot

I started up my husbands Maxdata laptop a few days ago, without realising it wasnt plugged in (batterys a dud) It got halfway thru powering up and then everything went dead. Now it wont boot up at all, all I get (eventually) is a blank screen with a cursor, which eventually changes to an error message about an incorrect boot device. I tried using the restore cd, but I get the same error. Now, to compound the whole problem I went into setup and messed with the settings there,(yeah, I know... stupid..) it was showing everything as 'disabled'.

So... does anyone know what might be buggered in it, and how I might get it fixed before darling hb needs to use it again?:o
