Sick Pay clatification?

    Hello,


    Just wondering if the following is true.

    According to http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/employment/employment-rights-and-conditions/leave-and-holidays/sick_leave sick pay has to be mentioned in a persons contract/conditions/terms etc.

    So if all you contrat stated was something along the lines of the following

    "In the event of absence from work you are required to contact your employer by 9.30am on the first day of absence. A certificate from a qualified medical practitioner must be submitted on the third day of a continuous absence and on a weekly basis thereafter."

    ...and that was it.. sick pay is at the behest of the employer?

    Is that correct?

    Any help/advice appreciated!

    Thats the story where I work anyway. They don't actually have to pay you if you are out sick, it's up to the director/manager or someone whether they want to pay you or not.
