As i said i moved house and took my sky box with me.

When I got to the new house I hooked it up to the existing dish and got nothing at all, I dont have a subscription at the min I was using it to view bbc 2-3 itv 2-4 etc.

I checked the cable from the dish and it seems fine, did a signal strenght test and got nada.

The only thing ive not done is inspect the dish itself, which is not too much trouble as its a bungalow.

Could it be that the previous tennants had say an ntl set up (for example) and the dish is in the wrong position?

    Anyone got any ideas?

    Any help is gratefully recieved.

    Joe Dunne

If the dish is setup correctly and pointing to the sat AND if the cable is running from the dish to your set top box, then you should be getting channels. If you're getting no signal, make sure that your dish is pointing in the right direction and that there are no breaks in the cable. Make sure that there are no kinks in the cable either.

NTL doesn't use satellite dishes. However the dish could be pointing to some other satellite, or pointing nowhere in particular. Or maybe the LNB is broken?

Its possible the lnb on the dish at the house you moved into is gone faulty, or more likely that the dish is pointing to a different sat such as Hotbird 13 degrees rather than the sat you require which is located at 28 degrees, so you will need it to be realigned.

    Hi all,

In a bid to stop me from having any fun at all my wife had gone and ordered sky to be installed, so all will be taken care off.

    Ah she mean't well.

Hey, this isn't After Hours! Stay on-topic.

    OP:
If the installers are coming with a fresh dish, why not take the old one down and put it on ebay (or give it away)?

Otherwise they'll take a short cut and use it, which is probably not what you want if you think it's dodgy.
