    hi all

hoping that someone can maybe help out here with some Ipod Nano troubles. I recently picked up an 8GB unit which arrived today all shiny.

So far it though I've hassle all the way. I'm running Win2k Pro and it sees the Ipod as a mobile device but Itunes or WinAmp won't see the unit at all. Well actually Itunes saw it one time but then i turned by back and it came back saying it needed a software update. When I tried doing this throguh Itunes it stalled, and when i got it going again, the Ipod had disappeared.

I've gone through the 4 r's thing on the apple website and swapped the connections around through different USB ports but still no luck. Anyone got any other suggestions what might be up.......

I was thinking maybe some hardware conflict but device manager shows everything to be peachy. So unless I go through and see if there is maybe some software running thats affecting it I dunno....

any help would be greatly appreciated :D

Hey baz. Have you tried it on another computer? If so n it didnt work and you have the receipt then you will need go back to the shop.

I got an 80gb ipod recently and it stopped working after a week. It was actually less hassle to get apple to replace it than returnin to the shop as they send a courier to pick it up and drop it back (free of course!) if its under warranty. Had it back in a week. I went the warranty way as the store i bought it in was out of stock.

Not sure I follow what you mean here, if the nano needs it software updated you do this through the iPod updater software, not iTunes (however, not sure if you meant that the software update message came from iTunes itself - ie update iTunes to ver 7.3 or something?)

What I'd try is restart the PC, don't start iTunes but start the piece of software inside your "iPod" folder inside Start -> Programs menu. Plug in your iPod and see if it shows up there for an update. If it does show up and it can be updated do that, if it says it's already updated, I'd do the "restore" option - as it's a new iPod you are losing nothing doing this. If it doesn't show up there, I'd retry doing a reset a few times and see if that makes it show. As a minor point, I'd also switch around to different usb ports if you can by the way.

If all that fails, then I think I'm about at a loss myself and would just consider, as above, letting Apple sort it out themselves..

    thanks guys

just a quick update, i downloaded Itunes (latest version) to my laptop, plugged in the Ipod and blammo it worked. So now I'm figuring that either the Itunes I downloaded onto the desktop might just be corrupted or somesuch, or I have either a software or hardware conflict.

So while I get around to pulling everything out of the desktop and stopping all backbround programs on the desktop I've just shared my music folder across my home network and will use the laptop to load the the ipod.

If i work out a fix for this issue though I will post it up just for reference and so that anyone else with a similar issue might get a bit of help.

    thanks for the input
