I did an MBS out of a Sci degree.

No issues with the content, got a 1st.

All soft subjects though, which didn't require prior knowledge as such. Small element of adapting to such, but manageable. Got a second class primary degree, so that'll show you.

    Best of luck with it

    hey,

i am interested in the exact same course. I am from an I.T background but want to go more into a business direction. If you got an MBS could you give some insight into how you found the Post Grad in business at DBS and what you are working as now.

I am trying to decide between this and a MA in Finance.

i went into dbs and talked about the post grad, its a level eight diploma same as an honours degree. dbs woman said ppl who this course typically go on to do a masters in a particular stream so idea of two years more in college swayed me towards Mim in smurfit. you can do a masters in hR or marketing in dbs if you are a graduate in DBS if your interested

Actually if you've some time on the net the smurfit site has a load of background info on different course types.

Offtopic but I discovered too it has lots of useful tips for interviews and the like.

I did my MBS in Smurfit, undergrad was I.T.

    in Banking now.
Finance masters would have given me more options in terms of jobs I'd say.

Masters was intense enough, for me enjoyable after a 4 year slog in Comp Sci. Probably my best year in college though, I liked the experience. Although you sound like you may have been working a while? A few in my course had a few years real world behind them, and loved the freedom of college again.

I would venture that the Masters itself has been of no advantage to me so far in my young career. That may change.

    Hey,

How did you do an MBS at smurfit from a Comp Sci degree. I first looked at Smurfit and that course required someone from a business background, would i not be correct in that thinking ?.
I have been working in I.T for 6 years and have no business qualifications.
Since looking to further my studies so I can move in a different direction I have learned that I.T is possibly the worst degree to chose on the basis of offering the chance to do a Masters in a different direction, everyone of them is geared towards someone who already has some kind of business/finance background hence the reason i was left with the Post Grad at DBS.

Sorry, I just read through the courses and I see the MiM one is geared towards the exact type of course I am looking at. It looks excellent.
I have no idea of how i could afford to do it but would love to try. Thats another huge hurdle I am finding hard to cope with. How I can afford to do a full time course in Dublin. I will have to look into grants etc. Considering the fee's and accommodation are 16,000 to begin with, then unless there is some sort of help, I could never afford it.
From your experience were there many people in the older age bracket doing a course like this. I am 27 now, makes all this a lot more difficult. Wish i did it straight after uni like yourself.

Also if it was the MiM that you did, do you think its worth doing in terms of opportunities ?.
