Haemochromatosis and alocohol

    Hello,
My friend was recently diagnosed with haemochromatosis. He is concerned whether this condition would effect the detoxification of alcohol from the body. Since he is a professional driver he is worried would alcohol persist longer in his blood stream than in a healthy individual, thereby causing him to fail a blood-alcohol test by the gardai, if it was required of him to undergo one. Basically does anyone know is there a link between alcohol blood levels and haemochromatosis?
    Thanks.

not really - depends on the amount of liver damage caused by the haemachromatosis. Alcohol and haemachromatosis increases risk of cirrhosis significantly.

Also you should NEVER drink and drive, even one drink. I have personally witnessed and helped resuscitate people after road accidents and know the consequences first hand.

True. When I first started driving I remember going for one pint after work, and I could feel my reactions dulled after ONE pint of beer. After that I decided I would never drive after even a small amount of alcohol. You might feel ok but your reaction times and awareness say different :)
