Multiroom

Apologies if this is out of order but can't really find a better forum to post on.

I am looking to get Multiroom in the house and I'll need phonelines plugged into the back of both boxes but can anyone suggest how I go about getting 4 phonelines running from the wall jack that is down stairs in the hall. I have just rang Eircom, given the run round for half an hour then told it will cost me between €100 and €150 to get a new line in upstairs, so surely there has to be a cheaper and easier option than this.

    Cheers for any help.

    Hmmm...after first paragraph...

"Please note: The SV1550 is not compatible with Sky+, Sky HD as well as Grundig & Panasonic Sky receivers."

Afraid I don't have an answer...buddy did it for me gratis (one line though)...maybe local sparky/installer in your local yellow pages type book or ask sky installer if they would do it as an add on nixer?

So, you could use them for the multiroom box(es) provided they're not going to be any of the ones mentioned.
Regular phone line on the main box.

Unfortunately I have a Grundig one here so won't be able to get that. I presume I'll just have to pick one up in Dixons or somewhere like that?

Also, we only have one connection in the room where the multiroom is but seemingly we need to have the multibox hooked up to the phone line most of the time (which means we cannot have the line used for the phone for the entire day). Any ways around this?

    Thanks.

Of course you can use the phone! When Multiroom dials home to Sky, it doesn't spend the whole day on the phone, it dials out for about 30 seconds. The rest of the time your line is free. I have Multiroom, and I had to install extra phone points myself, no way around it I'm afraid, it's in the terms and conditions.

So I need another phone point in the room where the multiroom is set up? I know I have to get a wireless thing for the normal sky box (within six weeks).

Phone cable (compared to satellite or others) is very cheap, very thin and very easy to lay.
Little or no DIY expertise is required, it is a simple 2 core cable, you should be able to get all the cable and wall sockets (mini variety) for a fraction of the 100 you were quoted from most decent hardware outlets and even many pound shops. Laying it can be as simple as following or behind skirting boards/door frames etc and small bore holes thru frames ceiling.
Cheap premade extension leads are easily available in long lengths and could be used until you can install a more permanent cable.
