Hey, I’m a student in Kerry going into 6th year and I'm looking at colleges at the moment. I'm interested in finding out about NUI Galway from any students who are attending or have attended the college. I've been on the website but I'd like to get the student’s point of view. What are the accommodation, facilities, lectures, atmosphere, etc, etc like? How much money would I need to survive?? Any information or advice at all to do with the college would really help, as I’m finding it really hard to decide where to go and what to do! Please help. Also, I’m looking into some sort of science career, maybe involving biology or chemistry, and I’d really appreciate it if anyone who did a course or is currently doing a course involving science, like biochemistry, biomedicine, biotechnology, chemistry, microbiology (you get the picture) or anything like this could let me know about the careers that these lead to and what the careers are like?I tried Qualifax and all that but I’m finding it hard to find the information I need, and I’m panicking a bit...please help!!

Lectures: never start on the hour, which is great if you like to have that extra few minutes in bed (i.e., they start at ten past the hour).

Money: Well, it really depends on your lifestyle, tbh. You might live like a Spartan and spend an average of €100 a week on rent and bills, with another, say, €40 a week on food. Or you might also spend cash like there's no tomorrow on clothes, booze, music and porno. Based on what I've read from the Student Union diary that's available every year, the average a student spends is about €800 a month.

Atmosphere: NUI Galway's a nice place to study. Other students have always been very friendly and helpful to me over the last few years, and I've heard countless tales from others of students helping people around, especially First Years. Veteran students know what it's like to be a newbie, so you'll have no trouble getting help.

Living in Kerry, it might be a bit hard for you to take time off to get to it, but there is an Open Day here every year, usually on the Thursday before exams start (which would be November 29 this year). You could come up and see things for yourself and ask students face to face.
